“I thought throughout my life that if I thought hard enough, I can simulate what the heart could do. So I tried to get my brain as big as possible, I tried to be able to compute as much information as possible at any given time. How many billions of calculations at any given second, maybe that could get me through. And I thought that I’d want to follow into battle anybody who just thought completely cranium, just people with huge brains. I thought that would be better than going by the heart. I saw going by the heart as sort of reckless or hard to be able to predict the outcome. But if you had brainpower you could control it. So I said well let me go like 85% brain and 15% heart and I’ll be this amazing matrix, this unbelievable being who’s always able to process. But if you’re actually in the concept of loving, that’s not gonna get you anywhere. The idea that you can think your way through every situation, you can’t think your way through love.
YOU CAN’T THINK YOUR WAY THROUGH LOVE.
And I’ve come to a certain age in my life where I’ve realized that I’d rather follow a person into battle who’s got a bunch of heart rather than a bunch of head, y’know.
(Because The Beatles didn’t sing “All You Need is Math”. It doesn’t work. It’s a terrible tune).
And I get to this point now where I start learning that when all else fails, go with the heart, all of the heart.
The brain will take care of itself, but the heart will not take care of itself if you’re not stationed, you know what im saying. All you need is love.”
- John C. Mayer.
